What do you need for this Fun Icebreaker?A ball or bean bag

How much time does it take for this Fun Icebreaker? 10+ minutes

Description: Have the team sit in a circle. There are a few different ways you can do this activity.

The object is to throw the ball or bean bag to another person in the circle and have that person say a specified thing and throw it to someone else. Here are some ideas:

  1.  Have the group say the alphabet.
  2. Each person must say the next letter and throw the ball to someone else and they must say the next letter, and so on.
  3. This is the same as the ABC but the group must count. You can set the number of 100 as a goal.
  4. Find a simple play script and make copies for everyone. Assign each person a role in the script. After they finish their line, they must throw the ball to the next person who speaks.
  5. Find a poem and have each person say one word before they throw the ball to someone else.
  6.  For a creative group, find the lyrics to a popular song. They must sing a word before passing it to someone else. The object is to actually have the
  7. group sing the song so the ball must be thrown fast.
  8.  If the team is in charge of a particular process (like making a chair), have them break the process down and each team member must say what his or her role is and then throw the ball to the next person in the process. This can be a learning experience.

The rules –  are that if a person drops the potato, the group must start over until they can complete the activity. If a person says the wrong thing, then the group must start over.

Fun Icebreaker discussion –  How did this activity make the group feel.

  • Did they have to pay close attention?
  • Did the other team members feel that another person was not pulling their load and messing the group up?
  • How did they handle it?
  • Were they excluded?
